November 2017 news

Joey and Nick collect Harry’s trophies

We have a new Overall League Wiiner’s trophy in memory of Harry Mutter, who sadly passed away during our Summer Season, whilst being league leader. Harry’s husband Nick and his poker buddy, Joey, came to collect the five trophies he won in the season.

Harry would have been proud.

Roly is our champ for a second time

Autumn finals are good for Roly, he became winner of our Deep Stack Slow Blind Quarterly Final tournament on Sunday, November 5, exactly two years after winning it for the first time in the Autumn 2015 season. The heads up was against Tim Kent. The final hand was a QJ raise by Roly, reraised all in by Tim with pocket fives which was called by Roly. A queen on the river delivered the goods.

In third was Jonno Vulture Cook and fourth Milo Lopez.

The event raised £87 for Children with Cancer (Polegate), who have been immensely helpful to Sandy and Den’s grandson. All table fees went to the charity, a raffle and some of the prize money.

Captain Lucky Pants beats 24 runners

Jonno Vulture Cook won the October 30 Hallowe’en tournament wearing new black and white spotted undergarments similar to his old luck pants. They paid dividends handsomely. Just before the bubble, The Vulture was severely short on chips but did a blind push under the gun with only three Bbs remaining in his stack. This move gave him a treble up to bust one player and get on even terms with the rest of the field, Peter and Martin Metcalfe.

Autumn final November 5...50k Deepstack

A new final format is being used in Phoenix Pub Poker. All will start with 50k chips, the blinds will be slower than normal and the format will be 25k chips up front with a 25k add on bank all as part of your £10 + £3 entry. We will also be raising money for Children with Cancer Polegate, who are doing a tremendous job in supporting Den and Sandy’s grandchild.

Reg by 13:30hrs, in person, text of Messenger to Jonno.
